Dancing for new audiences
We are delighted that NEBT has been invited to perform at the outdoor Newport Dance Festival in Rhode Island, USA, in July. It is a wonderful opportunity to share our work with new audiences beyond the UK:
“Expanding our reach and sharing our work with new audiences both nationally and internationally is central to our mission. New work thrives when it is experienced live; engaging with different communities allows us to introduce more people to ballet and inspires our artists in new ways.” – Karen Pilkington-Miksa, NEBT Founder and Artistic Director
We are proud to present a varied programme by an all-female group of nationally and internationally renowned choreographers at Newport:
Newport Festival Programme
The Summer Storm Pas-de-Deux by Jenna Lee is one of the many highlights of her ballet The Four Seasons, which she choreographed to Max Richter’s exciting and contemporary re-composition of Vivaldi’s famous violin concertos.
“Bright and elegant” The Stage
This sensual duet evokes languid, hot, endless summer evenings where everything is possible, just before the storm breaks loose …

The second pas-de-deux of our festival programme was choreographed by NEBT Associate Choreographer and former Assistant Director, Daniela Cardim, who was recently appointed Artistic Director of Ballet Arizona.
It is part of Daniela’s playful and intricate ballet Baroque Encounters, which was created for the company in 2023 and quickly became an audience and reviewers’ favourite:
“It is wonderful” British Theatre Guide
“Baroque Encounters by Daniela Cardim remains a joy. The work has a warm elegance, Cardim’s choreography translating perfectly into neo-classical movement two works by J.S. Bach.” Seeing Dance
The third piece is an excerpt of By a Thread by Marika Brussel, a choreographer known for creating socially conscious and narrative-driven ballets.
By a Thread: Calypso revises and re-empowers male mythology by putting the nymph Calypso centre stage and exploring her motifs for keeping Odysseus on her island for several years. A new adaptation of Homer’s Odyssey, it shows women who don’t need rescuing but instead lead the narrative.

Summer into Autumn
On our return from the US we will go straight back to the studio for our Summer Course, where we will be workshopping ideas for our autumn / winter production of The Nutcracker.
We will be performing this timeless classic with a contemporary twist at select locations in the UK, and continue our international touring with a series of performances in Nassau, Bahamas. We can’t wait!
